Inventors of Hydra the worlds first 360-degree camera-system that eliminates the need for post-processing stitching, facilitating easier capture of high-quality, immersive, and photorealistic content for simulation training doing customer discovery to test how our technology can enhance Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) training.

JTAC, or Joint Terminal Attack Controller, training involves preparing military personnel to direct the action of combat aircraft engaged in close air support and other offensive air operations from a forward position. JTACs are qualified service members who provide guidance to aircraft about where and when to deploy weapons in close proximity to ground forces. Their role is crucial in modern military operations, as they must accurately identify targets and communicate effectively to ensure the safety of allied troops while maximizing the effectiveness of the air support.

JTAC training typically includes rigorous instruction on topics such as:

  • Tactics and Procedures: Understanding the specific tactics and procedures for coordinating air strikes.
  • Communications: Mastering the use of various communication equipment to relay information to aircraft pilots.
  • Target Identification: Learning to identify and confirm targets while minimizing the risk of friendly fire or civilian casualties.
  • Use of Laser Designators: Training in the use of equipment to mark targets for precision-guided munitions.
  • Simulation and Field Exercises: Participating in simulated environments and live exercises to practice directing air support under various scenarios.

This training is designed to ensure that JTACs can operate effectively in diverse and high-pressure environments, making critical decisions that have significant implications for the success of military operations.

Over the past eight weeks, Circle Optics has done an extensive customer discovery process to learn about the current simulation resources available to JTAC community and how Hydra II might enhance and accelerate the learning experience.

This week, our team visited the 20th Air Support Operations Squadron at Fort Drum, hosted by Parker Gray, a Tactical Air Control Party Officer within the Air Force Special Warfare Community. We were privileged to gain a firsthand, immersive experience of a day in the life of a JTAC, participating in live training and witnessing drills and evaluations. We are immensely grateful to the entire crew for their service, skill, and generosity during our research phase, which has been invaluable in our ongoing efforts to support and enhance JTAC training.

Customer Discovery Focus: 360-Degree Camera Technology for JTAC Application

Here are the capabilities we are building to support the JTAC community:

Spatial Awareness in 360 Degrees

Our product isn’t just about watching videos; it’s about immersive learning. JTACs gain a profound sense of their spatial relationship to targets, aircraft, and hazards, enriching their understanding and effectiveness in real-world scenarios. This 360-degree perspective is critical for precise targeting and situational awareness, crucial in high-stakes environments.

Cross-Service Training Without the Cost

Circle Optics enables JTACs to virtually attend training across different branches, eliminating the need for expensive and often unfeasible temporary duty assignments (TDYs). Our 360 video library showcases how Navy JTACs train compared to their Air Force counterparts, providing

Pre-Mission Excellence

Before even arriving at a new base or deploying new technology, JTACs can now gain firsthand experience through our content library. From navigating unfamiliar terrains to mastering emerging tech, Circle Optics prepares personnel for success with the knowledge of how top JTACs operate, plan missions, and integrate with various equipment.

Innovative After-Action Reviews (AARs)

Circle Optics transforms the way debriefings and AARs are conducted. By utilizing our 360 videos, units can pause and analyze scenarios in detail, asking critical questions like “What would you do in this situation?” This approach offers a deeper analysis for root cause identification and promotes a culture of continuous improvement, leveraging non-biased, accurate data to enhance future missions.
