Exploring the Intersection of Cinema and Innovation at Circle Optics
At Circle Optics, we pride ourselves on fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation. This commitment is exemplified by our monthly Lunch N Learn series, which combines the joy of cinema with the collaborative spirit of our team. These sessions are not only a platform for relaxation and enjoyment but also serve as a catalyst for sparking creativity and dialogue about the intersection of technology and storytelling.
Why Cinema Matters to Us
Cinema, with its rich narratives and complex visual storytelling, offers a unique perspective that aligns closely with our work in developing state-of-the-art 360-degree cameras. Each film chosen for our series provides insights into different cultures, storytelling techniques, and emotional landscapes, all of which are essential to the work we do in imaging and optics.
This Month’s Cinematic Journey
Our recent Lunch N Learn series featured a curated selection of films from across the globe, each shedding light on different aspects of life and humanity:
- Bangalore Days – A vibrant exploration of youth and familial bonds in urban India, capturing the essence of modern aspirations and the power of relationships.
- City of God – A stark portrayal of the complexities of life in Rio de Janeiro’s favelas, depicting the struggle for survival and power within a community.
- Brokedown Palace – An intense drama about friendship and justice in Thailand, exploring the harrowing experiences of two friends entangled in a legal battle abroad.
- Life of Pi – A visually stunning tale of survival and spirituality that follows a young man’s perilous journey across the Pacific Ocean with only a Bengal tiger for company.
- Talk to Her (Hable con Ella) – A compelling narrative about the intricate relationships between two men caring for two women in comas, exploring themes of love, loneliness, and the mysterious nature of human connections.
- Good Will Hunting – An inspiring story of a young math prodigy navigating the challenges of academia and emotional trauma, finding guidance and friendship in an unlikely mentor.
- Rain Man – A touching film that delves into the complexities of family and autism, as two brothers embark on a transformative journey that challenges their understanding of each other and their past.
- Back to the Future – A classic adventure-comedy that follows a teenager’s accidental journey back in time, where he must navigate the challenges of the past to preserve his own future.
These films were selected for their rich narratives and diverse thematic content, aligning with our exploration of storytelling from different cultural and experiential perspectives. Each offers a unique lens through which we can view human experiences, paralleling our work at Circle Optics, where we aim to enhance how stories are captured and told.
Enhanced Viewing Experience
To enrich the experience, we transformed our viewing space to replicate a movie theater environment, complete with popcorn, sodas, and candies. This setup not only brought the magic of the movies right into our conference room but also provided a comfortable space for team members to relax and engage with the films on a deeper level.
Technological Synergy
Each session included discussions on how Circle Optics’ technology could revolutionize filmmaking. Our 360-degree cameras have the potential to enhance how stories are told, offering filmmakers new perspectives and greater immersion. For instance, the sweeping landscapes of Bangalore Day or the intimate streets of City of God could be captured in expansive detail, providing viewers with a more engaging experience.
Future Aspirations
As we continue with our Lunch N Learn series, we aim to delve deeper into the symbiotic relationship between cinema and optical technology. These discussions not only enhance our appreciation of film but also inspire us to innovate in ways that push the boundaries of traditional filmmaking. We believe that by understanding and embracing the art of cinema, we can better equip ourselves to contribute to its future, crafting tools that enable storytellers around the world to tell their tales more vividly
Circle Optics Conversations with movie Makers

Garrett Brown is an American inventor, best known as the creator of the Steadicam™. Brown’s invention allows camera operators to film while walking or running without the normal shaking and jostles of a handheld camera. The Steadicam™ was first used on Bound for Glory (1976), which received an Academy Award (Best Cinematography), and has since been used on thousands of films such films as Rocky (the triumphant stair scene) and Return of the Jedi, where Brown walked through Redwood National Park with the Steadicam™ shooting film at 1 frame per second to achieve the illusion of high-speed motion during the speeder-bike chase. Garrett Brown was the recipient of an Oscar for Scientific or Technical Achievement and an Emmy Award for his invention of the Steadicam™. His Skycam™ is how we all watched the recent Super Bowl! As if these inventions were not enough, it is his latest invention that aligns with Circle Optics, Inc. commitment for technology for good – life enhancing technology. Garrett is committed to the interface between human beings and machines with one guiding word: AUTONOMY! He joined Circle Optics in an exclusive interview to discuss his current passion Zeen! Zeen is a revolutionary mobility device for those battling age, injury and disease.
