At the recent WMBE Awards Ceremony, Karen Edwards, the Breaking News Anchor for 13WHAM, expertly took on the role of emcee acknowledging over 500 people championing business in Rochester, New York. Adam Bello, Monroe County’s County Executive, and Bob Duffy, President and CEO of the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce, spoke about the significant strides made in diversity and empowerment of small businesses. Adam Bello highlighted the effective and rapid processes put in place by the MWVE certification program, appreciating key team members for their dedication. He proudly noted the Micro Advantage Loan program, aimed at boosting small business growth through accessible funding.

Bob Duffy praised the streamlined certification process that drastically reduced bureaucratic delays, attributing much of this success to the collaboration between the chamber, the county, and other local leaders. He emphasized the visibility and proactive engagement of local businesses as essential for economic growth and community development. “Looking at the honorees for our inaugural Greater Rochester Chamber MWBE Awards, we are excited to see and celebrate the outstanding successes of these organizations, spanning industries, sizes, and sectors. The collective economic and cultural impact of our small business MWBE Award honorees is remarkable, and we are proud to play a role in celebrating their leaders for breaking down the barriers minorities have historically faced. Our region would not be the same without the influence of these outstanding companies, and we are proud to have them in Greater Rochester.”

In his keynote, Terence Clark, President and CEO of the New York/New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council, emphasized the substantial benefits of certification beyond the recognition itself, advising attendees to leverage these certifications to build trust and relationships within the business community. “Certification is nice, but it’s what you do once you get the certification. People do business with people they know, they like, and they trust.” He highlighted the critical role of personal engagement in overcoming the barriers of digital communication, particularly noting the limitations experienced during the pandemic with virtual meetings.

The ceremony also celebrated the success of local businesses, with special recognition given to the top performers. Rochester Specialty Contractors claimed the top spot, recognized for their superior construction services and commitment to community and client satisfaction. Our team at Circle Optics was honored as the second-ranked business, acclaimed for our pioneering work in 360-degree imaging technologies that enhance situational awareness and immersive experiences. Farmhouse Table LLC was ranked third, celebrated for their dedication to providing high-quality, locally-sourced catering services that emphasize the importance of community-centric culinary experiences.

Our Founder & CEO, Zak Niazi, has this to say about our being acknowledged: “It’s an honor to receive this award, particularly here in Rochester, NY. Rochester is a city that has been at the forefront of shaping minority rights across our country, from Frederick Douglass with abolitionism and the Underground Railroad, to Susan B. Anthony and her advocacy for women’s rights. Rochester, NY, embodies an area that has led not just technical innovation, but social innovation as well.”
