Led by Kara Jones, GENIUS NY is the world’s largest drone and robotics accelerator, providing a launchpad for startups through funding, mentorship, and a year-long in-residence program. Now in its eighth year, the accelerator has supported 18 international companies, helping them establish a presence in upstate New York and integrate into the broader UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) ecosystem.

“We are witnessing incredible momentum in systems, automation, and AI-driven robotics. Investments are increasing, regulations are evolving, and real-world deployments are scaling faster than ever,” says Jones. “Whether it’s medical drone deliveries, advanced aerial inspections, or AI-driven robotic systems, innovation is happening across the U.S. and globally—including right here in upstate New York.”

GENIUS NY isn’t just an incubator—it’s a full-scale launchpad designed to accelerate success. The program is backed by Empire State Development, reinforcing New York State’s commitment to innovation and economic growth. Each year, GENIUS NY invests $3 million into five startups, with the grand prize winner receiving a $1 million investment and the four other teams each securing $500,000.

Beyond funding, startups benefit from:

  • A Year-Long Residency Program: Companies receive mentorship, business development support, and strategic guidance.
  • Industry Connections: Introductions to key partners, customers, and investors in the UAS, robotics, and automation industries.
  • Ecosystem Access: A collaborative network including testing facilities, manufacturing resources, regulatory expertise, and talent from top universities.
  • State-of-the-Art Office Space: Startups receive free workspace in the Tech Garden, which is undergoing a $32 million expansion set to be completed this summer.

Over the past eight years, GENIUS NY has helped shape the future of drone technology, supporting companies that are making tangible impacts in various industries—from medical deliveries to infrastructure inspections. With continued investment and expansion, the accelerator is poised to attract even more groundbreaking startups, further solidifying central New York as a global leader in drone and robotics innovation.

For entrepreneurs looking to take their technology to the next level, GENIUS NY is a game-changer.
